Hybrid bicycles come in all shapes and sizes.  They can range from very comfortable cruisers to sporty urban touing bikes and are ideal for commuting around town, exercise, and leisurely strolls around the neighborhood.  A hybrid bike is a hybrid between road and mountain bikes combining the nimbleness and light weight of a road bike with the ruggedness of a mountainbike.  This web site is dedicated to providing information to anyone interested in hybrid bicycling for all levels of enjoyment.

When you begin your search for the perfect hybrid bike, make sure to visit your local bike store so that they can fit you with the proper size.  For men’s bikes, you should be able to straddle the top bar with at least three or four inches of clearance (this also applies to women who are shopping for men’s bikes).  For a woman specific bike - the type where the top bar runs up diagonally from the rear to the front - it is a little bit more difficult to fit and it is best to consult your bike shop sales representative.  Make sure to adjust the saddle so that you can easily reach the pedals throughout the pedal swing.  Your saddle should be high enough so that when your pedal is in the lowest position, your leg is very slightly bent and almost straight.  This will ensure the maximum power and efficiency from pedaling.  Make sure that you can easily step on and off of the pedals without loosing your balance.  Also, you should be able to grab the handlebars without stretching your arms to much and they should be slightly bent for better leverage.
